This one-of-a-kind Fon style saber with blade curving slightly forward, completed April 2009, displays one of the traditional style
Fon carvings of a ram's head. The peened Wenge wood handle is accented with brass ferule as well as a beard and ponytail of horsehair.
The curled ends of the mild steel guard can be bent in various different styles and shapes meant to mock the tails of chameleons and
snakes which were sacred animals to the Fon people. The blade is 29 1/4 inches with a tempered edge. Feels beautiful in hand.
Very well balanced. The forward lean of the blade creates devastating cutting power. Sabers like this would have been used by high
ranking officers of the Dahomean army.

Dahomean ceremonial sword. One of the inspirations for Sogbo's hilt.
