Carved Akan Asante war sword Carved Bubinga wood handle
Forged steel sword blade Carved Bubinga wood handle

This beautiful one-of-a-kind akofena (war sword) of the Akan, circa 15th-16th century, completed in the month
of April '08, is mounted with a hand carved and hand finished Bubinga wood hilt. This hilt took a whole two weeks to complete. The sword is 28 3/4
inches overall and sports a 19 1/2 inch hand polished double edged blade with a keenly sharp 8 1/2 inch striking area. The blade was drawn out from a bar
of 1065 carbon steel half its size. Akofenas when sheathed were most often worn edge up in the warriors belt or sash. "Breath" is very well balanced and quick making
it a joy to handle. The balls of the hilt are an egg like oval shape allowing for the hand to rest comfortably upon them. This gives a very securely locked grip. This
intentionally more ruggedly styled sword speaks war yet still embodies the gentlemanly nature of the aristocratic warrior, both handsome and fierce. Sold
